A Turkey Hill toast to you, Andrew!

Monday evening a dear friend and brother in Christ was called home. He had a very sudden and unexpected heart attack. I am not great with words and it seems that in hard times such as these I find it hard to put into words the thought and emotions swirling around my mind. So here is a link to someone who is a talented writer and artist who has put to words what many in our ODOS and church community are feeling and tells a bit more of what happened Monday. Here is a better picture of Andrew Millette and the details of Monday night from Andrew's roommate Matt's perspective.

Andrew was one of the first people I met when I joined the ODOS group for Bible study. In fact, I believe he was teaching the first night when I showed up late and in the middle of some outburst of laughter that had something to do with Eunuchs. His gentle spirit and love of Christ were always apparent in the way he spoke and the way he loved others. He was absolutely in love with his fiance, cared deeply for the homeless and hurting in the community, and truly had a servant's heart. I think he had a sense for the deeper needs of the people he encountered, always knowing when a hug or a word of encouragement or an invitation to join in a conversation was needed. In the midst of sadness in losing a friend, I can't help but smile knowing that Andrew is with Jesus. I'd like to think they are sitting around eating scrapple and drinking turkey hill tea.

Death is a funny thing. It's not something often discussed. And people are generally uncomfortable talking about it. But I love that as a follower of Christ there is so much hope - death does not have the final victory, there is something greater after this life, and one day we will all be united together again with Christ in heaven. I also love how times like these bring communities of people together - to pray for one another and to life each other up in so many precious ways.

"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" - 1 Corinthians 15:55

Thank you for this lovely and thoughtful tribute to our dear son. It has now been 10 months since he was called home and God is still giving us little nuggets of encouragement regarding the continuing impact of his life. Your blog was one today May God bless you richly as you continue to serve Him. Lanny Millette (Andrew's dad)
