Book Review: Sun Stand Still

Sun Stand Still:
What Happens When You Dare to Ask God for the Impossible
By: Steven Furtick

Steven Furtick, pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC, beleives that anyone can (and should) have "audacious faith" in God doing the impossible in our lives if only we are willing to ask. You and I can make the sun stand still, just like the account of Joshua in the Old Testament where the sun stool still for an entire day. You might be a little skeptical or think the idea is a little hokey. And if you read this book you might find some of Furtick's simplified theology a little hard to swallow. But I urge you to fight through and finish this book. Furtick not only challenges you to have audacious faith and ask God for the impossible, he backs up his claims with a great balance of Scripture and personal testimonies. He does a great job of putting into perspective what it means to have faith, pray, expect God to do big things, and the reality that things may not always go the way you want. He gives you the good and the bad news about asking God for the impossible. Sometimes we get what we want and sometimes God works in ways that we don't always understand. And he makes it very clear that this isn't the easy way out. It takes work.
I was definitely challenged by what he had to say. I was inspired to ask God for the impossible. And I felt equipped to begin this journey of praying "Sun Stand Still" prayers with audacious faith. It's a quick read and worth your time. My only complaint is I wish he would have used fewer cheesy alliterations and catch phrases.

I received this book free from Multnomah Books as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
