Book Review: The Jesus Inquest

The Jesus Inquest:

The Case For and Against the Resurrection of the Christ

by: Charles Foster

I think at some point or another we have all questioned what we believe and what is truth. Growing up in Christian schools and the church I have both questioned and been around those who question the resurrection of Jesus Christ. While many argue that you must accept on faith those events recorded in the Bible or simply accept the Bible as truth without further discussion, I have always wanted to know more. In "The Jesus Inquest", Charles Foster attempts to tackle this difficult topic. Treating this as a mock trial, he presents clear arguments both for and against the resurrection. It's clear that he spent a long time researching the period of time surrounding Jesus life and death, giving the reader a better picture of the culture of the day. Context is key. He also does a great job of exploring different hypotheses of what happened to Jesus' body. I think this is one of the better written books I've read on this topic. However, it will probably lead you to ask more questions than it actually provides answers for. I recommend reading with a friend or someone to discuss the ideas with. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review; the opinions expressed are my own.
