Untamed:
How the Wild Side of Jesus Frees Us to Live and Love with Abandon
by Lisa Harper
Sometimes I have a hard time getting excited about these types of "if you really knew Jesus you'd be free" books, but I've heard good things about Lisa Harper's books and figured it was worth a shot. While this book didn't offer anything earth shattering to me, it definitely gave me a new perspective on many of the old stories that I've grown up reading about Jesus. Harper is a great storyteller and she engages the reader with her culturally relevant discourse. It was easy to imagine what it would have been like to sit at the last supper with Jesus or to be sitting with Jesus when he called the disciples to follow him. Each chapter points to a different "Wild Way of Jesus" that she clearly explains and then allows the reader time for reflection. Although this was the most theologically challenging book, I believe it would be great for a young women's small group/Bible study. Harper makes Jesus relatable and the questions she poses at the end of each chapter would be a great starting point for conversation. It is definitely worth the time to read.
